He watched awhile,
as others, who were hopefully also experiencing pain in spite of their persistence, advance down the long road.
His might was not only fatigued but all his vigor had been depleted.
He was extremely hungry for any sort of nourishment.
The image came into his mind of a ship and its crew lost somehow on their voyage home.
They had just exhausted their last storage of food and water and were now destitute in the vast ocean.
Here was Todd;
failed.
It was in this moment of dire need for sustenance that one of the most cherished individuals Todd had ever encountered appeared.
A woman, who lived not afar, had come to offer slices of orange.
When Todd reached the woman he fell upon the ground, wasted and spent.
Todd lifted his eyes as the woman bent down to hand him an orange.
It was a vibrant color, juicy, and glistened in the sun.
It was as if this orange fruit was sent from the gods and the woman standing before Todd was Hermes with provisions from Zeus.
“Thank you”
was all that Todd could speak as he finished consuming the fruit but as he looked into the woman’s eyes Todd tried to communicate what immense meaning this simple orange possessed.
After his crew had their fill of ambrosia Todd continued on the voyage having swapped callous for humility as his cargo.
