Amazing Things

I was walking down the street and saw an ant dragging a cockroach along. I was amazed by the whole scene that I had to stop and watch for a few minutes and take a picture. You can clearly see the ant is several times smaller than the roach but that didn't seem to stop him. Imagine dragging something so large through harsh terrain like cement (for an ant it can't be very smooth). I get tired carrying myself around let alone something that is substantially larger than me. This little ant, with his miniscule legs and odd shaped body, is amazing and should be admired for what he is and his potential to do amazing things. Mark Twain thought highly of him and gives him special credit in the essay "What is Man" as he describes the ant's character and abilities being greater than mankind's.

I believe in fairness and the equality that it is able to bring to a situation. I also believe that music is amazing and that it has incredible power to persuade, destroy, build-up and inspire. Life is many things for many people depending upon who you are and what you experience but I would dare say that everyone’s life is enhanced because of music. When it comes to aesthetics I accept Plato’s philosophy that good art points to the all encompassing Good. When I am able to experience good music which presents something more than just lyrics and melody, something that is greater than the song itself, then I feel that I am part of something more than myself. It is something so great that I understand so little about it, but yet have experienced it and felt it many times before. Because of it I am drawn toward greatness and the Good. Life is beautiful and hard. Something that shares both characteristics needs something to help maintain the fairness of it all. This is why I believe the sign below.

A sunset should always be looked upon with awe, admiration and amazement.

I love any speculative quote about music - or any quote for that matter. Music is quite the phenomenon.

Watch this Sigur Ros video:

Besides it being an amazing video and an even more amazing song, it has quotes about music for the first minute or two.

um...that cockroach is disgusting. This is why an ant has more character and abilities than man, because he will eat a cockroach.

Not all of us have WalMarts to go get Chinese Labor food for 49 cents. I'd say the ant is more accomplished.

Chinese Labor food for 49 cents. Also disgusting. And I have seen ants walking away with it before. Quite accomplished they are.

Haha, touche, so what you are saying is ants carrying away that horrible food and the Avg. American carrying it away from Wal Mart puts the Avg. American about equal with that ant?

I'd disagree, I'd say the ant it SLIGHTLY more worthwhile.

Well it would almost put an average American equal with the ant EXCEPT that an average American won't eat a cockroach.

In that sense, the ant is definitely slightly more worthwhile. Too bad our presidential candidates aren't ants...(I'm 98% joking)

That's true, but the average American WILL eat a decaying chicken breast. In perspective with an ant eating what it CAN (a roach carcass), and a human eating what it chooses/wants(a chicken carcass), I'd still have to suggest that the ant is 1-up on us. :-)

Not just a decaying chicken breast, but a decaying chicken that was kept in a cage for most of its life, shot up with hormones, antibiotics and who knows what else. Ugh, I'm going to go out to my garden and pick a tomato. All this from corb posting about amazing things! lol
